Signature Espresso Roast: First a Tester, Then a Supplier
In 2008, Coffeeness became the first German-language website for fully automatic coffee machines and good coffee. More than 500,000 users now visit us every month. This success is the result of a clear mission:
Honest content meets expertise and high standards for ourselves.
With this claim, we launched our first coffee beans on the market in 2021. It was initially an experiment, but we quickly realized we were on the right track:
You are looking for good coffee beans for espresso machines. We know what that means.

Coffee the Way We Love It
We are a small team of coffee enthusiasts, espresso machine nerds and detail-oriented fanatics.
A fully automatic coffee machine is often considered a compromise device. However, through our work we have learned that all it takes is a perfectly balanced roast to get first-class coffee at the touch of a button.
The secret is simple: understand the features of a fully automatic machine, find beans that suit it and familiarize yourself with the capabilities of your particular model.
But in the end, both semi-automatic and fully automatic machines are just equipment. For real depth of flavor and first-class coffee enjoyment, you need coffee beans that give their all.
We take responsibility at every stage of the coffee value chain. For us it's not just about taste, but also quality, honesty and sustainability. We are determined to do the right thing with every cup of coffee – from harvesting to shipping, from the farm to our customers.
Expertly Roasted. Always Fresh.
When you're buying high-quality coffee, freshness is of the utmost importance. That's why each package of Coffeeness Signature Espresso Blend has a roasting date. So our customers always know how fresh their coffee beans are – and when they should be best enjoyed.
Immediately after roasting, coffee beans have to rest a little. During this time, they release excess carbon dioxide and develop their flavor and aroma. Around 14 days after roasting, the taste is the most complex and balanced. And thanks to the roast date, you can easily calculate the optimal time to enjoy our coffee.
Our partner Shared Roasting in New York uses all of its expertise to ensure that the enjoyment lasts a long time. Because with high-quality beans, careful roasting and the right packaging, coffee retains its aroma for much longer. And that's no coincidence, but the result of experience, control and craftsmanship.
Origin & Quality: Transparency From Farm to Cup
Our Espresso Roast is a blend of 100% high-quality Arabica beans from Brazil. We do not buy them from wholesalers, but collaborate directly with Ocafi.
Ocafi is a pioneer for Brazilian specialty coffee and fair, direct trade from transparent sources. This German-Brazilian company manages its own coffee farms and also maintains relations with several exemplary farms in the Minas Gerais region. The Ocafi team takes care of exports itself and works on the sustainable optimization of coffee value creation.
No middlemen are needed for our coffee beans, just more than 70 years of experience in coffee cultivation.
Ocafi is run by two young idealists, Luis and Niklas, both of whom see coffee as a rare natural product that deserves more appreciation. That is why they are constantly working to improve working conditions, are committed to new, sustainable cultivation methods and ensure maximum transparency in their trade relations.
Our blend comprises Catuai, Bourbon and Mundo Novo – three varieties that provide balance, sweetness and complexity.
- Catuai – balanced and chocolatey
- Bourbon – mild, sweet and aromatic
- Mundo Novo – bold, spicy and full-bodied
Our coffee beans come from farms between the city of Juruaia and the south of Minas Gerais.
- Fazenda Matão
- Fazenda Aliança
- Fazenda Santa Alina
These farms not only have decades of experience, but also work to the highest quality standards. From coffee processing to targeted harvesting methods, the farmers always select the methods that best suit the coffee and are most gentle on the environment.
Water consumption on the farms is reduced through optimized systems. Many farms use stored rainwater and work with targeted drip irrigation. At the same time, the farms promote biodiversity and use natural vegetation as shade trees and companion plants.
In this way, they minimize the environmental impact of coffee cultivation, reduce the use of resources and find a balance between effective coffee management and sustainable coffee value creation.
Commitment & Fair Trade Relations
All our coffee beans are directly traded without intermediaries. This enables fair prices, stable purchase quantities and personal relationships. In addition, Ocafi not only stands for quality, but also for social and ecological change.
Together we support:
- Training and further education for permanent employees and seasonal workers in agriculture, coffee cultivation, sensory analysis and coffee knowledge
- Project "Fazedores de café" – Barista training for people from socially deprived areas
- Social events on the farms for all employees and their families
- Safe working conditions and co-determination rights
- Fair wages for all – regardless of season or origin
- Reforestation: Thousands of trees are planted
- Nature reserves (2–200+ hectares) on each farm
- Biodiversity through planting grasses and plants between the coffee rows
- Solar power, recycling initiatives and natural fertilization
- Targeted pest prevention: avoidance of agrochemicals wherever possible
- Circular economy: Natural waste becomes fertilizer or animal feed
All processes are documented, evaluated and regularly reviewed. If you have any questions, we are happy to provide you with all the important information.
Crafted for All Espresso Machines
It wasn't easy to craft a blend that would produce convincing results in both semi-automatic and fully automatic espresso machines. After all, espresso extraction in a fully automatic machine is a world of its own – and only partially comparable to an espresso machine.
However, we're confident that you'll get great results with our Signature Espresso Blend, whether you're using a Breville Barista Express or Jura Z10.
We have tested our coffee beans in dozens of machines from a range of manufacturers. As you might expect, the cup results are different for each machine. Still, we've found that our Signature Espresso Blend is a true all-rounder, always maintaining its body and sweetness as well as notes of chocolate and nuts.
Our Roasting Philosophy: Craft & technology. Period.
Roasting coffee is an art that combines skill, technology, experience and patience. Shared Roasting only roasts in small batches and always relies on a gentle, low-temperature drum roasting process.
This takes longer than a commercial roast. However, the roasting stages can be calculated much more accurately, the coffee beans do not burn and the aromas have time to develop.
Each roast follows a carefully balanced roasting curve, which is carefully adjusted depending on the harvest and flavor profile of the current batch. This attention to detail is essential in helping maintain consistency.
